Fuel Prices Go Up, It's Time to 'Green Hotels'



Increase in the price of fuel predicted would make the tourism industry also adjusts the price. According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy,
Elka Pangestu, the hotel industry will experience an increasing in energy costs, especially electricity.

"What we suggested that since last year to hotels to pay attention in energy efficiency. The short term, we will facilitate them on how energy efficiency as well as its users, so both for hotel and guests who stay there," said Pangestu at a press conference in Gedung Sapta Pesona, Jakarta, Monday (5/3/2012).

He spoke at this time any energy efficiency already applied by the 5-star hotels. Ranging from simple things like towels and bed linen. Thus, customers are given the option to not change the towels and bed linen, to save the water use.



In addition, her party keep call upon in order for the hotel which to be built or already built can follow the standardization of green hotel or environmental and friendly hotels.
"Its standardization already exist, ranging from water management, waste management and more. Even as the oil used for diesel engines," she said.

Therefore, She viewed this as a good moment to push programs of green hotel. In addition, she continued, currently also attempted the use of alternative energy by the hotels in Indonesia.

Data from Central Statistic Agency shows that starred hotel in 2010 numbered 1.306 units. While in 2011 increase to 1.489. More than a thousand star hotel in Indonesia, only 24 starred hotels which passing the selection to get  Green Hotel Award 2011. From that 24 hotels, 10 of them are awarded the ASEAN Green Hotel Recognition Award in 2012.
