Mapeed, an Unique Offerings Convoy in Bali





This is a scenery which often seen in many pictures about Bali. Women in bali wearing white kebaya (traditional women's clothing in Indonesia) and walking in a long line with
fruit arrengements of fruit on their head. This named Mapeed tradition, a manifestation of gratitude to the Lord.

If you lucky dan come excact 10 days after Kuningan feast, Mapeed could be an great experience in your vacation. In Bahasa Indonesia, Mapeed means walking in convoy. This ritual done as their (Hindunese) thank to The Great Sang Hyang Widi Wasa, The Lord Almighty.
In this ritual, the participant usually are followed by housewives, traditional uniform. In their hair arranged with sanggul. The Balinese kebaya which worn by them also in same colourand covered with typical women sarung which bound with a selendang in their waist. They also accompanied by their husband and children. The family member whose followed this convoy also wearing complete Balinese traditional clothing.

Until now, Mapeed still done in Pura adem Alas Kedaton, Kabupaten Tabanan, Bali. The housewives carrying gebongan from banjar to Pura Dalem Alas Kedaton. Gebongan is an arrangement of fruits and the other offerings which arranged in a container called dulang, dulang which used in average have 1 meter height.
After well-structured, these gebongan start to suung (carry) on their won head. Then, brought into the pura (temple). In the pura, gebongan purified by the local elders. After the purifying done, the worship began to praying.
One thing you have to know, to keep their absorptionn, the tourist usually prohibited to covering. You dont need to worry about it, because this prohibition just only in worship area. So you can take some pictures from the outside wall which usually called panyeker or pura's fences.
