As an effort to anticipate the outbreak of mouth and nail disease to animals, the Surabaya Zoo (Kebun Binatang Surabaya/ KBS) has decided to temporarily close two animal attractions since May 6.
"The feeding hour for and riding animals that are closed. to anticipate the outbreak," said Public Relations of the Surabaya Zoo, Agus Supangkat, to detikJatim, Sunday (29/5/2022).
Previously, the feeding hour program could be carried out on deers and camels on weekdays. While weekends can be done for crocodiles and Komodo.
His party temporarily stopped the attractions because the outbreak in East Java continued to grow. Moreover, one of the transmissions of the disease can be through animal feed. Therefore, KBS chose to prioritize the animal's health. It is also not sure how long the attractions will be closed.
"This is done to reduce the risk of interaction between visitors and the animals. We don't know for how long, just follow the regulations," he said.
