An Englishman Surfer Make A New Record on Kampar River

Steven King, an England surfer made a new record in Riau. He explored the Bono wave, the legendary waving river of Kampar. He made it within 64 minutes.

"This is a new experience for me and will be a brand new world record," said Steven in a press conference at Hotel Transit, Soekarno Hatta airport, today (02/15/2013).

Kampar river in Pelalawan district of Riau have an unique natural phenomenon. There is a big wave named Bono, which exists betwen the collision of river and sea in the estuary of Kampar river. Its height reaches 4 to 6 meters.


On wednesday (02/13/2013), Steven vanquished this wave. He recorded the best time , only 1 hour and 4 minutes accross 1,8 km on the Bono waves.

"Bono is a long and fantastic wave, need a powerful energy to survive on it," said him.

He explained, how difficult to surfing on it. That wave have a long pattern and unpredictable movements, because lacing from the cliffside raises bigger wave.

"Ocean wave rises only one by one, but in Bono is unpredictable because of the cliffseides's wave collision effect," added Steven who have been surfing for 32 years.

Next, he will send this record to Guiness World of Record, "We have the GPS tracking record and witnesses for the poofs."
