The excavations carried out by the team of Balai Arkeologi Yogyakarta (BAY) on 7-14 February 2012, on the site Patiayam, the village of Jekulo, district Terba, Suci, generated interesting discoveries, one of them is 'hammer' stone.
"This stone is approximately the size of a small helmet. The material of andesite," said Siswanto, head of the BAY when contacted Kompas.com, Thursday (16/2/2012).
The 'hammer' stone that found indicated ancient human civilization of homo erectus on the site Patiayam in the time of 750.000 years ago, such the age of that stone.
In addition to that stone, the excavations also discovered the fossil of an ancient bull shoulder blades, bone tools of ancient deer femur as well as three axes. "Two hand-held axe made of andesite stones, like the hammer stone. Meanwhile, another one is made of limestone," explained Siswanto.
He thought, the material of the ancient human's equipment showing its function. Tool from the hard and strong stones that is intended to handle the powerful things as well.
Currently, the site Patiayam need a place to store and show off the finding collections. All of them are still kept in the local village hall.
"Until now, many local citizens who visit and see the site. General museum just never been this much (the site visitors). If Patiayam had the building to show off these collections, it will be very good," explains Siswanto.
